Position Requirements
Kelberman is a leading provider of autism services for children, adults and families in the Mohawk Valley and Central New York.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Activities may include but are not limited to the following:
- Support an individual in the classroom or across the campus community as outlined in their individualized plan.
- Provide tutoring or assistance in coursework.
- Participate in activities as part of the InclusiveU team that may include meetings, trainings and committees.
- Implement and monitor plans for people receiving services through the OPWDD Home and Community Based Waiver Program.
- Delivery of direct services to individuals while assessing appropriateness of plan as developed, progress/regression, continued appropriateness of plan.
- Oversee the safety and well-being of the individuals.
- Maintain and regularly compile documentation to be reviewed by supervisor as required.
- Ensure positive and effective communication and cooperation within and between department, division, center, family and community personnel.
- Establish a work environment that creates positive communication between supervisors and employees and assimilates new employees to the culture, values and mission.
- Ensure compliance with all pertinent government and center regulations and operating standards.
Required Skills & Abilities
- Maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality.
- Regularly attend scheduled shifts and meetings, being punctual.
- Exercise tact, discretion and judgment in working with a variety of people.
- Legible handwriting.
Education & Experience
- High School Diploma or GED preferred.
- Must have understanding of the characteristics of persons with intellectual or developmental disabilities.
- At least 1 year working with people with developmental disabilities is preferred.
- Basic computer skills.
- This position has regular and substantial unsupervised or unrestricted physical contact with individuals receiving services, therefore, is required by law to be fingerprinted for a criminal history record check under OPWDD (Office for People with Developmental Disabilities)
- Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances are warranted.
Work Environment/Hazards
- Job related tasks do not involve exposure or potential exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissue and Category I tasks are not a condition of employment.
- May have exposure to unpredictable individuals and situations when working at sites.
- Occasional exposure to inclement weather conditions.
- OSHA Exposure Category III
Physical/Mental Demands
- The employee must have full sight and hearing with fluency in the English language. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear.
- The employee frequently is required to stand, walk and sit. Must be able to sit for long periods of time.
- Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs. and may be exposed to verbal and/or physical aggression.
- Ability to walk, bend, and squat.
- Ability to climb and descend stairs.
- Must be able to move and react quickly.
- Must be able to manage and cope in sometimes stressful situations.
- Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a copy machine, scanner, computer printer, etc.

Compensation
- $16.50 per hour
