Registered Physical Therapist
The Registered Physical Therapist is responsible for providing therapeutic services to program participants. The therapist will assess, plan, implement, and evaluate physical therapy interventions to enhance the physical development and functional abilities of program participants with various developmental delays, disabilities, and injuries.
Position Requirements
Kelberman is a leading provider of autism services for children, adults and families in the Mohawk Valley and Central New York.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
This is a full-time role with a standard Monday through Friday work week (8:00a - 3:30p) and based on a 12-month school schedule.
Role responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
· Conduct comprehensive evaluations of children’s physical abilities, motor skills, and developmental milestones.
· Use standardized assessment tools and observational methods to identify individual needs.
· Develop personalized treatment plans based on assessment results, collaborating with parents, teachers, and other specialists. Set measurable goals and objectives for each child.
· Implement a variety of therapeutic activities and exercises to improve strength, coordination, balance, and mobility.
· Utilize play-based and age-appropriate techniques to engage young children effectively.
· Work closely with teachers, special education staff, and families to support each child’s development.
· Provide training and guidance to families and staff on therapeutic strategies and activities.
· Communicate with other health care professionals relating to all aspects of the Individual Program Plan (IPP)/ Individual Education Plan (IEP).
· Maintain accurate and timely records of assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, and discharge summaries.
· Ensure compliance with legal, ethical, and professional standards.
· Regularly evaluate and document each child’s progress toward therapy goals, making necessary adjustments to treatment plans as needed.
· Provide information and resources to parents and caregivers regarding their child’s development and physical therapy needs. Conduct workshops or informational sessions as necessary.
· Advocate for the physical needs and rights of children with disabilities within the Promise Preschool program and broader community.
· Assist with departmental maintenance and supplies.
· participate in activities as part of the treatment tram including but not limited to meetings, trainings, and committees.
· Assist in orienting students, volunteers, and new therapists within the program; provide supervision for therapy assistants as needed.
· Provide assessment, fabrication, modification, and repair of adaptive equipment as needed.
· Establish a work environment that creates a positive communication between supervisors and employees and assimilates new employees to Kelberman’s culture, values, and mission.
· Ensure compliance with all pertinent government and agency regulations and operating standards.
· Adheres to agency policies and procedures; follows and supports agency mission, vision, and values.
· Other duties as assigned.
Required Skills & Abilities
· Travel may be required; a valid NYS Driver’s License is required.
· Knowledge of physical therapy principles and best practices.
· Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
· Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
· Ability to lift and support children, as well as perform physical activities as needed during therapy sessions.
· Comfortable working in various preschool settings including classrooms, playgrounds, and therapy rooms.
Education & Experience
· Doctorate in Physical Therapy, and a valid New York State PT license required.
· Experience or desire to work with pediatrics or individuals with developmental delays or disabilities preferred.
Work Environment/Hazards
- Job related tasks may involve possible exposure to blood, body fluids, tissue or spills or splashes from these substances. May have exposure to unpredictable individuals and situations when working at Kelberman sites.
- OSHA exposure category l.
Physical/Mental Demands
- The employee frequently is required to stand, walk and sit. Must be able remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time.
- Must be able to bend, twist, reach.
- Must have the ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

Compensation
$66,000.00 - 70,000.00 / Annually
