Assistant Director Of Residential Services
POSITION SUMMARY
The Assistant Director of Community Living provides leadership and oversight of the daily program operations. The Assistant Director of Community is responsible to oversee the interdisciplinary team process, coordinate services, develop an effective communications network, ensure active treatment, monitor facility conditions and supplies, and maintain compliance with state, federal, and Kelberman regulations and operating standards.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Role responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- Supervise daily program operations including budget monitoring, interviewing, hiring, scheduling and coverage, orientation, staff meetings, performance evaluation, and staff development and coaching.
- Provide coaching and counseling of staff to enhance individual and team performance.
- Oversee Interdisciplinary Team process with direct supervision of the development and implementation of individual program plans.
- Coordinate services between residential and day habilitation programs; promote community integration.
- Develop and maintain effective communication network with the residential and day program providers, families, other departments, and community.
- Ensure development of individualized program plans and staff provision of active treatment service.
- Monitor operation and condition of the building and supplies.
- Ensure compliance with all pertinent regulations and operating standards.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable program documentation requirements. Responsible for training and monitoring staff on accurate and timely completion of required documentation.
- Oversee and maintain the timely completion of all necessary records and reports.
- Participate in activities as part of the administrative team that may include meetings, attending and/or conducting trainings and participating in or chairing committees.
- Assist in development of solutions for operational and staff issues.
- Establish a work environment that creates positive communication between supervisors and employees and assimilates new employees to the Center’s culture, values and mission.
- Ensure compliance with all pertinent government and Center regulations and operating standards.
- Maintain and regularly compile data and documentation to be reviewed by supervisor as required.
- Contribute to a positive work environment through collaborative team work and positive communication in alignment with the Kelberman’s culture, values and mission.
- Demonstrate excellent work attendance by being punctual and reliable for all scheduled shifts and meetings.
- Ensure compliance with all pertinent government and agency regulations and operating standards.
- Adhere to mandatory reporting requirements and HIPAA laws.
- Other duties as assigned.

- Must be able to manage time independently, adhering to all deadlines including unexpected demands for information and/or additional assignments.
- Must be able to work with diverse personalities, needs, wants and abilities of individuals
- Must be able to effectively lead groups / curriculum to individuals with varying abilities, diagnosis and interests.
- Must be able to lead group and one-on-one trainings and discussions.
- Must have good negotiation and counseling skills.

Position Information
Kelberman is a leading provider of autism services for children, adults and families in the Mohawk Valley and Central New York.
Requirements
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s Degree in Human Services, Education, Psychology or equivalent required.
- Minimum of one (1) years of progressively responsible management experience in the field of autism, developmental disabilities, education, health care or mental health services, a portion of which took place in New York State.
- Knowledge of basic computer skills
- Travel and transport is required. Must have a valid NYS Driver’s License and require reliable transportation.
- This position has regular and substantial unsupervised or unrestricted physical contact with individuals receiving services and is required by law to be fingerprinted for a criminal history record check under OPWDD (Office for People with Developmental Disabilities)
An equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed above may be substituted for the above education and experience requirements.
WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Job related tasks may involve possible exposure to blood, body fluids, tissue or spills or splashes from these substances. May have exposure to unpredictable individuals and situations when working at Kelberman sites.
- OSHA exposure category l.
- The employee frequently is required to stand, walk and sit. Must be able remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time.
- Must be able to bend, twist, reach.
- Must have the ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
